Legal Ties

Ed and I went to the DuPage County Clerks office this morning where we applied for and received our marriage license. *smile* One more "to do" crossed off the list. The woman that issued us the license was interested in my unconventional bridal gown, and she gave me her email address so that I can email her wedding pictures! LOL We just seem to make "friends" wherever we go!

be glad, be very glad - when Jack and I were married, the license had to be obtained in the county of residence of the bride. And since I lived in Hennepin County and was getting married in Olmsted, that required having the judge who was marrying us call a friend in Minneapolis, and asking him to exempt the 5 day waiting period. We had to move our preferred date, since the judge was going to be out of town for 2 months.

So, I got the license, walked down to criminal court where the clerk of court took my exemption into the judge, and the court officer very carefully placed himself directly between me and a very scruffy group of incoming prisoners.

Then, of course, I got the usually goody bag of "congratulations", and went straight to work -- where we were trying to keep a low profile, since we couldn't invite all the legislators, lobbyists, staff and journalists. Eloping with family and close friends worked, but it did get complicated.

Oh my goodness, what a colorful story! One for the memory books that's for sure. I can just picture you getting that exemption with all the riff-raff hanging about. Crazy beginnings or not, you and Jack made then and are now a tremendous couple! Thanks for sharing the tale and for being such a wonderful friend.

Love,

Debra

In Virginia, in order to get a marriage license, you have to swear that you are not too closely related! haha. We are looking forward to your wedding in two days!
