Trip the light fantastic

Ed and I had our first ballroom dance class this week. It was a good time, filled with a lot of laughter and smiles. We’re both relieved to report that all 20 of our toes are bruise free…we managed to not step on one another even once! Huzzah! We’re going to continue taking private and group lessons at the Dance Time Studio in the coming months. They also offer social dance nights, so we’re looking forward to becoming better partners for one another.

On that theme, we’ve begun to draft our “play lists” for the reception and this weekend we’ll focus on picking out “our first dance song." Do you have a particular song (or songs) that you'd like to dance to at our reception? Suggestions are most welcome (but I warn you, the “chicken dance” is OUT right along with the “Macarena!”). "Cha-cha Slide" or "Time Warp" anyone?! *grin*

One of the Flanders boys was hoping for the chicken dance at our wedding, but I also nixed it! What sort of first dance are you doing? Traditional waltz, or other? As you may have noticed, we did a rumba. Love that latin groove.

Well, I have now read my first "blog," with this also being my first posting to a blog. Must keep up with you young folk, eh!

For your first dance, you two should create your own estampie dance. Since no one knows what is proper estampie dance, no one can criticize what you do on the dance floor!

Sometime during the evening, probably later, you might consider having the DJ play "Let the Good Times Roll," preferable a good, peppy blues version like Dr. John's. Listen to the lyrics, it's really a love song. Anyone who isn't tapping their feet or snapping their fingers should be asked to leave [insert one of Debra's smiley faces here].

Love, Denny (Ed's dad)

Estampie dance--HA! That's great, Ed and I had to look it up! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Estampie for those of you who, like me, need a "refresher" on 13-14th century dances). It is believed to involve "vigorous hopping"...my oh my, I'm getting a visual on that one!

Your suggestion for "Let the Good Times Roll" is fabulous. I've added it to our DJ play list.

One of these days, I'll actually have you inserting :-) and ;-) in your messages just you wait and see!

Hi Rebecca! Your rumba and choice of music was great! It was very well suited to you and Richard. Ed and I have chosen the song "True Companion" by Marc Cohn as our first dance. We are really enjoying our dance lessons and "sampling" all the different types of dances.

You can't forget about Ben Folds' great song, "the Luckiest." It's a total love song and I cry every time. Ok. scratch that. No crying allowed!
...But it's so great. Hmmm. I'll leave the song selection up to you guys. I trust you to keep us thoroughly entertained. Anyway, aren't you paying someone to worry about the songs? ;)

Oh yes, "The Luckiest" is a tear-bringer for certain! Great song. Yup. we certainly are paying someone to worry about the songs that night, but ahead of time, we are letting him know what we like and don't like so that it will truly be a perfect night (which in "Debra terms" means no country *shudder*, macarena, chicken dance, or polkas!!) It is so much fun for us to add our favorites to an online "play list" provided by the DJ service. We also can designate all the music we want to be played at certain times of the reception (cake cutting, introductions, cocktail hour, etc). It is very cool!
